The Building Blocks of a Cohesive Wardrobe

12.15.2010 WRITTEN BY Ashley What to Wear

At Tog + Porter, you’ll always hear us talking about building a more cohesive wardrobe. But what does that really mean? Because every woman has her own unique sense of style, we send our members pieces that fit their personality — not simply the same cookie cutter shipment. However, we do know that there are a few wardrobe staples that can be tailored to fit the different styles of every type of woman. So scan your closet for these simple, yet style-saving pieces, and find out if you have a closet we like to call cohesive.

1. Layering pieces: The best way to show off a great cardigan or blazer is by wearing a great top underneath. A tank or t-shirt that fits well and holds up will come in handy season after season. Key piece to own: A slimming tank in a neutral color with a bit of texture or detail.

2. A booty-hugging pair of jeans: …not to be confused with booty-squeezing. It’s essential to have a great pair of jeans that show off your curves or lean legs. Fortunately for you, jeans are our speciality 🙂 Key piece to own: Dark wash boot cut denim that looks great with heels and can be cuffed for fun.

3. A black pencil skirt: If there’s one article of clothing we praise the most, it’s probably the slimming black pencil skirt. Pencil skirts are great for any body type and are great for showing off your waist when tucked in. This key piece is a no-brainer for a busy professional.
