New Trend: Cut-Outs Take Over

7.24.2013 WRITTEN BY Stephanie How to Wear, New Trends, T+P Blog Central

Designers have been having a lot of fun with scissors lately. We’ve seen the cut-out trend continue to grow in popularity, making repeat appearances on the runway, the red carpet and now in stores.  The shapes and sizes of the cut-outs are growing as well. From office appropriate perforations to gaping mid-drift openings, it’s hard to miss this trend.

Cut-outs can be a great day to night outfit. Cover up a cut-out dress or top with a blazer for work, then toss it over your chair before heading out with your girlfriends or a date for a night on the town.  The ideal cut-out shows just the right amount of skin, without being overly sexy. You always want to leave something to the imagination. Jamie King and Jennifer Lawrence strike just the right balance of chic and classy in these cut-out gowns, while others go overboard.

Cut-outs aren’t only for dressy night events either, you can incorporate them into your everyday wardrobe as well.  A great way to start is with a simple solid colored A-line dress paired back to a denim jacket, and some cute flats. If you’re not quite ready to dive in, cut-out accessories are another good option. A cut-out cuff or shoe adds instant interest to any outfit.

We want to know what you think. Would you try the cut-out trend? Let us know by leaving a comment below.
