Keeping your Summer Whites Bright
It’s so fresh and clean looking, so summery and chic- but so easy to get dirty! For some, keeping our summer whites bright is a constant battle, but don’t let it discourage you. Here are a few clever tips T+P has picked up to help keep your whites looking fresh this summer season:
1. Use hot water. Yes, if the fabric permits it, hot water is the best way to get stains out of your white clothes.
2. Pouring 1/2 cup of lemon juice or 1 cup of white, distilled vinegar or 3-percent hydrogen peroxide into your washing machine with your clothes can keep your white clothes white. If you use lemon juice, dry your clothes under sunlight, as ultraviolet rays can also help brighten whites.
3. To get rid of those icky yellow underarm stains, soak whites in hot water in which you’ve dissolved 5 aspirin tablets (325mg each). You can also put a load of whites in the washing machine, throw in the aspirin tablets and wash on hot.
4. And last but not least, if you happen to be out and spill something (heaven forbid) on your white shirt/pants, the best way to ensure it does not stain is to apply a wet cloth to the stain immediately. The sooner the better. Dip a napkin into your ice water and do not scrub, just soak the stain and gently wipe, most of it should come out right away.
