As a stylist for Tog+Porter, I am able to pull from my past experience as a boutique clothing store owner. With clients from all over the country, I am afforded the chance to work with a dynamic variety of women whose wants and needs vary from not having time to shop, not liking to shop, to those who simply need an extra pair of eyes. Each client presents me with a new opportunity to get the creative fashion juices flowing. I call the first box the “getting to know you box” and the ultimate reward is to have a first showing via skype and find a client already wearing one of the pieces from their box! With each new client, I fall in love with what I do a little bit more!

As we welcome the upcoming fall season, the shades of autumn are indeed a beautiful mosaic of rich colors, vibrant brights and saturated hues.  So, as you are ramping up your wardrobe with the change of the season, these are the must colors for those key pieces you will be looking to add:

Bordeaux

Ahhhh…you will feel like a fine vintage in this rich shade of red.  Bordeaux is a great color for almost every complexion and can be worn as an accent to give your simple outfit a much-needed punch.  However, it is perfection personified when worn in a statement piece like this Velvet by Graham and Spencer top, $93.

Midnight Blue

Such a simple, yet elegant color.  Midnight Blue can be worn in place of black and is versatile enough for both day and night. Be it in the form of a suit for the office or a silk blouse with jeans and heels for a dinner out with friends. Bordeaux does it perfectly with this off-the-shoulder number.

Orange

Orange is not always the easiest color to pull off, but when it is done right, it casts a stunning effect.  Orange, like Bordeaux, is spectacular as an accent piece.  Think scarf, coat, pumps, bangles, or one of my favorites for this fall, The Paige Premium Skyline Peg in Flare, $149.

Bronze

This brilliant color is one of my all time favorites.  It can take the form of matte or shiny, both leaving an impression whether in the form of a dress, top or even your nail polish. Check out Coquettish Brown from Shu Uemura

Shopping for the perfect holiday gift can be quite the challenge, especially when you have to search store after store in order to simply find what you’re looking for. That quest has been made much easier thanks to new technologies that help organize and expedite to our holiday shopping hunt.

These days, when you have an idea for a great gift, the first place many people look to is the internet. Search engines make it easy to check out what’s in stock, compare prices, and read product reviews. The latest trend in internet shopping is what’s called “social shopping”. The internet’s version of word of mouth, social shopping is a way for fellow consumers to discover unique gift ideas, new places to shop, or pros and cons of specific products. Many of these websites are fashion-focused and allow users to post content about their favorite things, allowing other users to explore new product ideas and interact with like-minded shoppers.

Another technology trend that’s helping consumers shop quicker are smart phone applications that alert users of coupons and discounts in their area. Pocket (or purse) devices like Blackberries and iPads make it easy for women to know what to buy and where to buy it when they’re already out and about. Finding deals is also how many gift givers are spending their time on their smart phones and the internet. While mall-goers often buy items the same day they shop, people who use the internet as their resource know which days are best to buy.

This year, don’t leave your holiday shopping to the last minute and end up grabbing whatever’s left on the racks. Use new technologies and the internet as tools to research products, compare prices and connect with fellow shoppers.

1. Be dazzling: If you buy yourself one holiday piece this year, go with something sparkly. A great sequin tank is in style year after year, and it can be paired with a multitude of bottoms: dark wash skinny jeans, a high waisted pencil skirt, or wide leg wool trousers. Just because you’re under more stress this season doesn’t mean you should look it, and sparkles are a great way to show off your holiday spirit.

2. Work off of your work attire: Take advantage of your office look to achieve a festive going out outfit. When the clock strikes five, add an eye-catching statement necklace to a tailored button front blouse, slip on some bold red heels, or swap that blazer for an off the shoulder sweater.

3. Love your LBD: We all have one (or should have one) hanging in our closet: That perfect, waist-cinching, all-occasion appropriate little black dress. This is an item that can definitely be worn in a variety of ways. For dressier occasions, turn up the wow factor by wearing it with knee-high boots, or wrap a flashy belt around your waist. For smaller gatherings, add a warm cashmere cardi and scarf.

4. Don’t be afraid to wear the same outfit twice: Grandma will never know the sparkly tunic you wore to her Hanukkah party is the same ensemble you wore to mingle with your co-workers. If you have to show up to more parties than you can count on one hand, then save yourself some hassle by recycling one great outfit.

Isn’t it ironic, dontcha think? You can now buy a Lehman Brothers cash envelope, and use it as a clutch! They are surprisingly cute!
