What to Wear to an Outdoor Wedding
This is part II of our What to Wear to a Wedding series. For part I on What to Wear to a Church Wedding, click here.
Summer wedding season is in full swing and outdoor venues are the hot (pun definitely intended) ticket. From gorgeous ocean cliffs to down home family festivities — true story, my husband is headed to Missouri in August for a little cowboy boot wearing — summer weddings have the right to happen anywhere. This means they can also be a huge challenge to dress for. Will it be warm during the day, cold at night? Will my heels sink in the ground? The questions are endless and I want to give you a little direction on what to wear to an outdoor wedding.
Know the weather: This will help you plan everything from hair and makeup to the dress and shoes. Humidity calls for a dress that’s airy and light. Think fit and flare with a full skirt. Nothing worse than standing up after a ceremony and realizing you have a river of sweat rolling down your legs and bum and the chances of getting some air circulating up there are slim to none!
Know your crowd: If you’re a city girl headed to a hoe-down, probably best to lose the cocktail attire and dress with an afternoon bridal shower in mind. Prints are great and stripes are awesome. Keep the look sweet and sassy, very Sweet Home Alabama.
Know the venue: Look it up to check out the grounds. If there’s a lot of grass, dirt or sand, invest in a pair of these amazing heel covers to avoid sinking with each step. If it’s an outside only venue be sure to bring a wrap of some kind. Generally, one solid colored pashmina will go the distance for all of your outdoor summer weddings, just invest in a few memorable dresses to pair with it.
